Switzerland

Switzerland is one of Europe’s most spectacular gems: crystal-clear lakes, dramatic mountains, and landscapes that shift with every season. But beyond the clichés and the expensive, overcrowded routes, there’s another way to experience it.

The SuissePiste team explores the country year-round in search of its hidden treasures: authentic accommodation, passionate local partners, unusual spots and places far from the classic tourist circuits. Whether you’re into raw nature, soft adventure, or simply looking for something new, we open the doors to a more secret — and still accessible — Switzerland, for unique and memorable experiences.

Good to know

Climate

  • Alpine climate:
Found in the mountain regions. Cool summers and very cold winters with heavy snowfall. Strongly influenced by altitude and slope exposure.
  • Continental climate:
In the plateaus and valleys (Zurich, Basel, Bern). Warm summers, cold winters, and clear seasonal contrasts.
  • Sub-Mediterranean climate:
In the south of the country, especially Ticino and the southern Grisons. Hot, sunny summers and mild, wetter winters.
Culture & Languages

Spoken languages

  • German: spoken by around 63%, mostly in central and eastern Switzerland.
  • French: spoken by about 23%, mainly in Western Switzerland (Romandie).
  • Italian: spoken by roughly 8%, mainly in Ticino and some southern Alpine valleys.
